Background

If you’re not aware of Matty Matheson he is a well known chef and internet personality, to be frank I would consider him more of a celebrity chef at this point with all his different ventures (eg. Maker, Mattyfest), merchandise, and content that he releases. Nonetheless, he is known for his free spirit personality and his cooking is definitely an extension of that. He recently opened this pop up burger spot called “Matty’s Patty’s Burger Club” which was inspired his burger popups that took place in Japan, Hawaii, and different spots within North America.

Location

Matty Matheson has brought this burger pop up to a city that has shown him love time and time again, Toronto. While I am not sure if this is actually a pop up or actually staying for sure, if you are like me and do not want to miss out then you can check out it out at 923a Queen St West, Toronto, Ontario right across Trinity Bellwoods Park! FYI: Parking is not great and more than likely you are parking on the street!

Taste

So I tasted 4 different things. I ate the triple impossible burger with the pickled jalapeño mayo, I took a few bites of the double impossible burger with the Matty Patty sauce, some fries, and a little of the chocolate milkshake. The only reason why I only had a little of the shake is because as soon as I came home to try it, majority spilled from the straw and only a little was left… Trust me it sucked and was a definite buzzkill. Nonetheless, I was still able to enjoy the rest of the food and what I did taste of the shake, it reminded me of a good classic shake that would have been perfect for the summer time.

Even though there was some time in between when the meal was ready and when I ate it (commute), it still had a great taste. It’s just one of those burgers you can eat a while after or hot, but it is more enjoyable hot. Although this patty an impossible burger, it did remind me of Lightlife burgers. I did enjoy the crispy texture of the burger and the flavour you get from each bite, which worked great with the cheese. The sauce is a good assist, because it’s not spicy at all but there’s a little tickle of spice. In my honest opinion, it reminded me a bit of the Big Mac Sauce, just felt more fresh if that makes sense. The Matty Patty sauce was similar but it gave me more of a mustard feel which really did give a distinction in taste between the two burgers. In terms of fries, they are the classic shoestring fries, once again similar to McDonalds.

Price

So I would say this is definitely more pricy and like I said in the video it does make sense, since it is Matty Matheson branded. However, I wouldn’t say it is overprice but it is definitely overpriced. The combos range from $16 to $25 CAD. The combos do consist of fries and a drink, but I ended up upgrading to a chocolate milkshake for a small fee. They do have alcohol options as well, but for a full list of their updated menu check it out here.

Something else I would mention is that at first you needed to book way in advance for your burger and they were pretty strict on pickup times. However, now they do have a walk up option where you can order on the spot. Just keep in time of waiting for your food in the cold, so whether you are ordering ahead

Overall

All in all, for the price and taste I think this spot is definitely worth at least trying once and again if I am ever in the area. I do recommend vegetarians to at least try the burgers because it will definitely satisfy your hunger or need for a hearty burger. That being said, because of the price I don’t see myself going here often but maybe a few more times. I do suggest if you are interested in trying this meal then you should try soon just in case this will be only temporary. I am curious to see if they are going to add more vegetarian options in the near future.

Let me know what you think and if you have tried it before, what your thoughts are! Make sure you follow the blog via email or on Instagram and Facebook for more content and food reviews!
