REVIEW: NOMOO

What’s better than eating a juicy burger you’ve been craving just melting in your mouth? Knowing that burger is made of 100% plant-based meat, and free of soy and gmo! There are a lot of benefits of eating a veg burger. As a vegetarian, I enjoy it when restaurants not only care about trying to help other living things but also ensure they still make it a priority to offer delicious food. Therefore, when I found out that there was another vegan fast-food spot in LA that did this but also produced their own plant-based meat, I had to try it! Before reading below, please follow me on TikTokInstagram, and Facebook especially since I will be posting more food content and things to do in Los Angeles (and other places)! For a visual preview, see below!

About and Location

The place I am talking about is called “nomoo”, a retro-diner-themed restaurant that offers “new American burgers”. Nomoo’s mission is to provide better burgers for a better tomorrow. They do this from their products to their business practices. For example, they ensure all their staff has livable wages to help be a positive disruptor in the fast food industry, and their burgers are not made from popular plant-based brands such as Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat but made in-house which helps people’s health and the environment. I do want to mention that the customer service here was amazing, the best I have gotten at a plant-based restaurant.

Full disclosure, the main reason why this spot was even brought to my attention was because my sister and I are Carats (fans of K-pop group Seventeen) and we noticed in one of the members’ vlogs that recapped his time in LA, he went here! As you can see in the photos and preview video, you can identify the spacious patio space and vibrant colors if you were to walk, bike, or drive by. The location is 7507 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, California with free two-hour parking on all of the nearby side streets.

Price

As for the price, you can see for yourself by looking at the menu that it is similar to other vegan/plant-based restaurants. However, given that Nomoo is making their protein in-house and providing their employees with livable wages, I think their prices are fair and reasonable. They did have 1.5 liters soft drinks in glass bottles for $6 and melted cheese for an extra $1. My family and I ended up getting four burgers, a fries & salad 50/50, a large soft drink, and the vanilla lemonade. Something to note is that unfortunately, the cookies are brought in by a different vendor who’s usually here on Mondays and Thursdays I believe so when we went (Tuesday) it was already sold out.

Taste

So how did it taste? In short, believe the hype and you get your money’s worth! Each burger was unique in its own way and some reminded me of popular fast-food burgers. My favorite was the BBQ “facon” (and I did get a double patty for this) because the tangy sauce paired with the crunchy “facon strips” had so much going on with every bite, especially in terms of flavor and texture, but in the best way possible! My other favorite burger I tried was the “Plant-fil-a” and it’s pretty easy to determine which fast-food chain they took inspiration from for this burger. I expected the crispiness with this burger but what surprised me was that the protein (maybe because of the sauce), melted so easily with every bite. I did enjoy the Nashville Hot Chick’n burger, especially the house slaw it comes with but I wouldn’t say the burger is hot or spicy. Lastly, I couldn’t possibly leave without trying the nomoo burger and it was for sure worth it, this is definitely the burger that I would say takes the title as “the new American burger”. It did remind me of a Big Mac but unlike how McDonald’s did their PLT, I found the burger let the patty be the star with its juicy filling and the sauce, lettuce, cheese, and pickles complemented it. We also go the 50/50 fries and salad with chipotle mayo which was decent but I am wondering it it might have tasted better with another sauce. The vanilla lemonade was strong in a good way but I didn’t taste much of the vanilla.

Overall

These burgers are worth the price and nomoo is a spot I can certainly see myself coming back to try one of these burgers again along with other items from their menu. I love that as a vegetarian I can enjoy good food while knowing as a consumer I can help a business that is dedicated to making the world a better place with their socio-economic and environmental beliefs. I highly recommend Nomoo for vegans/vegetarians and anyone really! If you’ve been here or plan on going, let me know in the comments below or on social media.
