WHAT TO EXPECT: SNOTTY NOSE REZ KIDS – HOT PLANET TOUR

Earlier this month, I attended a concert for a duo I have been meaning to see live for some time now and if you’ve seen the Vinyl Sunday series I did last year on Instagram and TikTok, you would know why! I had a great time, loved the energy, and am happy to start the 2024 concert year with Snotty Nose Rez Kids! In this blog post, I will be sharing details including photos, info, and more of what you can expect if you see them live in the future! Don’t forget to follow the blog on social media (TikTokInstagram, and Facebook) for more concert content! For a visual preview please see the video below.

About

For those who aren’t aware of this duo, Snotty Nose Rez Kids (SNRK) consist of Darren “Young D” Metz and Quinton “Yung Trybez” Nyce who are both Haisla friends from highschool who grew up in the Kitamaat Village, a Haisla reserve that is located in British Columbia, Canada. If you couldn’t tell by their name or where they come from, SNRK are proud to be First Nation and you can hear in their music how they openly talk about indigenous culture and lifestyle. I forgot how I came across them but I remember when I first heard their album “I’m Good, HBU?” I had it on repeat for a week and immediately bought the vinyl online. I love their flow and style (in terms of music and fashion) and frankly, I love that they’re getting more recognition and awards including having their albums shortlisted for Polaris Music Prize and performing at Toronto Maple Leafs game.

Tickets & Venue

I initially wanted to see them in either the Summer of 2023 or December 2023 but I was still a little sick at the time, but thankfully I got an Instagram ad for this show at The Biltmore Theatre located at 39 King St E, Oshawa, Ontario. I have never been to a show at Biltmore but I am familiar with the area as this was a three-minute walk from Snackrite Xotics and there are some paid parking options nearby (after a certain time parking on the road is free). Biltmore does offer coat check for $4 I believe and some, snacks, and beverages (pop and alcohol) with limited seating in front of the AV and on the sides near the stage. The tickets were really cheap as it was $25 plus a $5.99 fee each which came up to $62 CAD after taxes for two tickets.

Merch

There were several merch options available including the vinyl I already purchased and featured in my Vinyl Sundays post. The merch was reasonable, and I got myself a dusty rose corduroy strap back cap with the “I’m good, HBU?” text on the crown and “SNRK” on the side for $20. This was a steal because I love the quality but also because it is cheaper than what is listed online on their site (which isn’t expensive either).

Overall Performance & Recommendations

I honestly had such a great time seeing these guys live because their energy was incredible, they had so much passion and the crowd was very reciprocating that in a respectful yet fun way, which I appreciate.

Although the doors opened at 7 PM, SNRK didn’t come out till 9:50 PM which was a bit disappointing during the winter. However, I want to mention that they did have two opening acts, with the first starting around 8 PM. The opening acts weren’t bad at all and had great energy, but I would have preferred they come out a bit earlier and instead of SNRK’s set being about about an hour, if anyway it could have been longer because they were incredible. My personal preference would suggest maybe keeping the opening acts to just one or having the acts starting 30 minutes after the doors open. Also, I know some people are into mosh pits and some are not, so I want to mention there were a few times the guys asked for one. I will be the first to tell you that despite how young I may look, I am definitely too old to partake so I and several others moved to the side. Nonetheless, the energy from SNRK was. phenomenal and they never compromised their vocal capability and stage presence during their set. This a duo that deserves to to be on bigger stages!

All in all, SNRK was amazing and despite certain things in terms of timing, I genuinely enjoyed the show as a fan of the duo, I hope they know that and continue to achieve bigger accomplishments as they are definitely on the rise to accomplish bigger stages and accolades! Let me know if you plan on catching a future show of theirs or if you listen to their music in the comments below.
