REVIEW: tripleS LIVE in Concert – Come True World Tour

Last night I got to see a group I truly believe will be one of the biggest global groups and they surely did not disappoint. This group is very interesting for several reasons from the records they break to the way they are disrupting how fans can engage and the power they have. I will talk more about this below but the group is called tripleS and I am happy I got to see them, especially at a great price. Read below for all the details and make sure to follow me on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook for more concert, k-pop, and music content! For a preview of what to expect, watch the video below!

About

tripleS is a K-pop girl group formed by MODHAUS, which is unique for various reasons. Firstly, their fans, WAV, actively participate and shape the future of the group through the COSMO app to vote for concepts, title tracks, and even sub-unit formations! I have never heard of fans having so much influence and engagement before. I will list the members and subunits before because there are an astounding 24 members (each with an associated “s” number to indicate when they were revealed) that sometimes perform together but have distinct sub-units with their own style and concept. The members are from South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, and Thailand which makes the group more diverse than others but also provides a more diverse perspective. In 2024, tripleS became the first girl group to release two studio albums in the same year, showcasing their prolific musical output and dedication to their craft.

tripleS is truly innovative when it comes to fan engagement and their dynamic sub-unit system which differentiates themselves from the rest of the k-pop groups. It’s incredible how any fan from the globe can influence their music, styling, and promotions. Also, through the COSMO app tripleS utilizes blockchain technology in K-pop since fans can own traditional photo cards but mainly NFTs that represent their participation in these decisions and purchases. Fans’ involvement in shaping the group is recorded permanently on the blockchain and provides more incentive to stay engaged on the app and with the group. It was also interesting to note that although each sub-unit has their own musical styles and concepts, which displays the versatility of the members, the 24 members are rotated into various sub-units constantly. Fun fact: last year, tripleS became the first girl group to release two studio albums in the same year! Personally, for me, I became a fan of theirs when I saw them on Bryan & Joon’s BYOB show where I found them hilarious.

Altough there are 24 members of tripleS, only eight of them touring on the “Come True” tour. The name of the tour is to represent WAV’s dream of seeing tripleS live. The eight members I got the chance to see were Seo-yeon, Na-kyoung, Nien, Da-hyun, Joobin, Ha-yeon, Sullin, and Seo-ah. The other members are Soo-min, Ji-yeon, Da-hyun , Joobin, Sullin, Kaede, Xinyu, Ji-woo , Chae-yeon , Hye-rin, Lynn, Yoo-yeon, Yu-bin, Kotone, Shi-on, So-hyun, Mayu, Yeon-ji, Chae-won. Persoanlly for me, my bias is Na-kyoung. Initially I knew about her because she is the younger sister of Bibi, an artist I listen to a lot. But, as I saw her on variety shows and her stage presence I truly became of a fan of hers!

As mentioned earlier, there are multiple sub-units which are Acid Angels from Asia (AAA), +(KR)ystal Eyes, ACID Eyes, LOVElution, EVOLution, NXT, Aria, Glow, Visionsary Visions and ∞! (Hatch!). At the concert, we were able to see different performances from these subunits and each subunit has their own sound and style to display the members’ versatilty as some groups are focused on ballads while others are focused on dance and so forth, the newest one is for their Japanese promotion!

Tickets and Venue

The concert took place at The Danforth Music Hall which is at 147 Danforth Avenue, Toronto. I always wanted to go to a show here but this happened to be my first time. There is limited street parking and a green P parking lot behind the shoppers across from the venue but keep in mind it does get full so try to go early also note that doors were only open at 6 and we drove by around 5:30 there was already a line outside wrapped around the block to get in. Suppose you can try to use ride-share or public transit. Also, it was past 6 and doors still weren’t open but it was too cold so we ended up going to the pizzolio to stay warm. Eventually, we got in at 6:30 and although I took a pic I forgot to read it because I did have the app and should have asked the staff to scan my QR code to get something exclusive on the Cosmo app.

This is a tip which I have to mention the tickets because I paid less than half of the standard price and I want to share how I did. I got tickets via Rogers exclusive access because I saw there was an option. If you’re a Rogers customer I’d recommend doing this because my tickets were only $62 while other tickets were $144.8 even minutes before doors opened. I remember seeing this before and almost got aespa tickets through this and I should’ve because it was hundreds of dollars less than the rest of the tickets in that section. Nonetheless, I’m happy I got these tickets, especially for the price! If you’re a Rogers customer all you have to do is text MUSIC to 4746 to get your pin which you enter to unlock the dedicated tickets and it’s cool that it even shows Rogers Customers Exclusive Tickets.

Merchandise

official tripleS merchandise including signed vinyl and lightstick, long line for merch and tripleS wearing the official concert merchandise on stage

This was an interesting experience because for merch I was really focused on getting one thing, the signed vinyl. K-pop vinyls are not common let alone signed so I really wanted that but I also ended up getting the lightstick, the butterfly t-shirt, and batteries. I was initially worried I wasn’t going to get the merch because as you can see in the bottom left the end of the merch line was near the stage and it wrapped all the way around the balcony to come back down to the actual merch spot. It was kinda weird that there was only one staff working the booth, it would have been better if there were two or three like other concerts but it still was moving. Fortunately, they had my vinyl still in stock but I do want to note that there are taxes and it is priced higher than in the US (e.g., the vinyl was $100 CAD while in the US it is $70 USD). Also, don’t forget to scan the back of your photocards in the products via the app to download the NFT objekt.

Performance and overall thoughts

The show started promptly at 7:30 and ended around 9:20 including the encore song, colorful. I have created the updated setlist playlist below if you are interested in listening! The girls’ energy was great throughout the set and they did take breaks in between to talk to WAV (fans) to hydrate and to play their prerecorded video messages. I knew they would be fun performers but I was shocked by the vocals, especially during the ballads which I’ll be honest about, made me appreciate the songs more. There were few songs that I loved and was excited to see such as Girls Never Die (video below or here), Generation, Girls’ Capitalism, 24, and Rising but seeing songs like New Look, Door, and Atmosphere live made me a fan of it. I will say that yes you can tell when they lipsync and when they don’t as well as when positioning in dance sequences seem off but it didn’t take away from enjoying their performance and I do respect the effort because a lot of them are covering when doing the unit songs because it’s only eight of the 24 members who were able to tour. I highly recommend checking them out if you can because I have a strong feeling they are going to be the next big girl group, and I know they deserve to be as well!

All in all, I am really happy that I saw these members of tripleS live especially as they are still relatively new, and like I said before I think they (and Boynextdoor) will be the next two big K-pop groups to watch out for. It’s wild that I ended up spending more at the merch booth than on the actual tickets but I enjoyed it from my seat and I appreciate the merch as well (fun fact the designer of the merch liked my video above). Let me know your thoughts if you plan on seeing them in a city near you or next time they are on tour in the comments below or on social media by following me on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook for more concert, k-pop, and music content!
