Review: BamBam of GOT7 Live in Concert

Since GOT7 is officially back and everyone including all the members is happy about this, I figured now is a great time to share my honest review and recap of when I got to meet and see GOT7 member, BamBam last year! Not only did I get to give him a high five, but I also saw him in my hometown of Scarborough! There is a lot to unpack about this so make sure you read below but before you do, make sure you give a follow on social media (TiktokInstagram, and Facebook) as I post more concert/music content! For a preview of what to expect check out the video below!

About

BamBam speaking at his Bamesis showcase fanevent

BamBam is a Thai-born K-pop idol who is a member of the K-pop boy group, GOT7. I will be honest, I am a fairly new fan of GOT7 even though I know friends who are huge fans of them but I actually listened to each member’s solo projects before I really listened to their group songs and the same applies to BamBam. I love watching BamBam’s variety show content on YouTube whether he’s interviewing someone at his house, judging and miraculously cleaning someone else’s dorm, or being a guest on a variety show where you are instantly laughing while simultaneously judging him. BamBam is also an ambassador for Louis Vuitton and a former ambassador for the NBA. In terms of his solo music, I will be honest, I wasn’t a big fan until I heard his latest album Bamesis which I felt like he truly found his sound and confidence, especially with songs such as “Last Parade”, “Mi Último Deseo”, and “Thank You Come Again”. So when I saw he was going to be in Toronto, I had to go… but there were some doubts.

Tickets and Venue

The doubts were from really this touring agency that was bringing him over because of the pricing, lack of promotion and failed promises/lack of communication. I felt like they weren’t properly advertising him and the ticket pricing was really expensive. The Canadian stops (Calgary and Toronto) were presented by VRS productions. When I saw the prices it was ranging from $100 to $200+ for the event to take place at Four Seasons in downtown Toronto. However, the day they moved the location to Global Kingdom Ministries, a church in the Woburn Scarborough area. I was already downtown that day to check out the Samsung x SSENSE pop-up but I still wanted to see BamBam but wanted to see if the prices drop. I eventually went 10 minutes before the show was supposed to start and got my tickets for only $10 cheaper ($110 CAD each). The ticket did cover a high-touch, an album, a poster, a photocard, and lower-level seating.

However, since the concert that occurred on September 22, 2024, and as of today, January 25, 2025, I have yet to receive the album. I only get updates from them if I contact them and unfortunately, they just say the albums are being shipped from Asia to Canada. As for the seating, we were somewhat close to the stage because not enough tickets were sold and they advised that we can go closer to fill up the seats which is unfortunate for BamBam and the fans who paid the premium pricing in advance. The seats here I will say were more comfortable than the ones at the Great Canadian Casino Theatre, when I saw ITZY live earlier that year. I was also disappointed that there was no merch available either for fans to purchase.

Fan Interactions

BamBam giving a high five and interacting with fans at the showcase tour

As mentioned this was a showcase event which usually means there will be fan interactions as well. After performing a few songs he interacted with several fans playing games with them and going into the crowd to get items from them to complete challenges. I believe there were other VIP upgrades but he also offered a high touch/high five to fans like myself when they exited the venue. The high-touch experience seems to be something popular at some K-pop shows and I also experienced this at Moonbyul’s solo show last year as well. There was also a nice video montage prepared by fans for BamBam to enjoy.

Performance

I think besides Seventeen’s LA Day 1 show, this is the only time a K-pop concert started late. The event itself lasted about two hours which wasn’t bad and honestly, BamBam gave it his all throughout the evening. I love BamBam’s radiant positive energy we see in his interviews displayed during his performances as well. I am sure he was disappointed with this sudden venue change and low attendance but he didn’t let that affect how he performed and how he treated his fans which I am grateful for. There were interesting graphics in the background and lighting but his dancers were the ones that enhanced his overall performance. I also love that he performed some GOT7 songs as well (which you can tell he was really happy performing). I love the amount of choreography and concepts he considered for each song of Bamesis (below are some examples).

Overall

All in all, it was a great performance by BamBam and it was a cool moment to give him a high five, who would’ve thought he would be the first of 10 K-pop idols I would high-five in 2024? I do wish there could’ve been a better promotion for BamBam, maybe even if this company partnered with a boba store like The Rose did then maybe they would’ve sold out and kept the original venue or even have a bigger venue to show BamBam the love he deserves. I also wish that there were some merch options as well. My main issue with this concert wasn’t because of BamBam but the promotion company because of the lack of communication and efforts to promote this show, and even to the people who bought tickets with updates on getting their albums. Nonetheless, I am still happy to have this experience to see and interact with BamBam and I hope to see him next with either the Thai line or GOT7! Let me know if you went or wish you knew about this concert in the comments below or on social media by following me on TiktokInstagram, and Facebook as I post more concert/music & K-pop content!
