The Last Dance: What You Need to Know

As most of you are in quarantine, doing your best to stay safe most of you have either tried new TikTok videos, Instagram challenges or looking to watch a new series that everyone seems to be talking about. Today, I am talking about one in particular, and no it is not Tiger King…

This brief post is about “The Last Dance” the documentary series about Michael Jordan and his legendary Chicago Bulls team from 1997-1998 as they work towards earning their sixth championship. This is the last championship that both Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, respectively, have won. You can see the trailer and exclusive footage from the documentary below.

This series is more than just a sports documentary produced by ESPN, as it takes a never before seen look at this team and more specifically, Michael Jordan. He is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, but he was able to transcend his iconic brand off the court to create such a profitable and reputable legacy and empire. Although I didn’t grow up watching him play, he has had such an impact on me that I even created a commercial telling the story for a school assignment, which you can watch here.

The reason why I am mentioning this is because Michael Jordan himself, has stated that he believes a lot of people will hate him after watching this series. To be completely honest, I am not surprised. For those who are not fully aware of Michael Jordan beyond the sneakers and his impressive Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, there will definitely be some content that may come as a shock.

Therefore, expect this series to highlight his extremely competitive nature. It is so extreme that Phil Jackson (head coach of Chicago Bulls from 1989 to 1998) even called it an addiction. Which can potentially also explain his addiction to gambling. But his competitiveness is well known, he apparently wanted to release the documentary during the Cavalaliers Championship parade in 2016 which could have been because he wanted to reinforce his status in the GOAT debate, especially against LeBron.

However, this is not too surprising as he is considered the GOAT which requires a lot of hard work and passion for winning. It was well documented how much work he put in but what he expected of his teammates, pushing them to get to his level and desire to win. This includes Steve Kerr. Steve Kerr is a great contributor to basketball with various roles from analyst, GM, and probably the most well known for being the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. Prior to that, he was a teammate of Jordan on this legendary Bulls team who got punched in the face by Michael.

There’s a lot that people may or may not know about Michael Jordan. I remember hearing about the time he allegedly refused to sign something for rapper Chamillionaire and other stories about him being full of himself. Therefore, for me I am not too sure on what I will discover and if my opinion on him will change but I am definitely excited to watch.

The team at ESPN worked around the clock to finish up the series to push up the release date and it’s finally here. If you wanted to watch it, see below for a schedule.
